I feel like Godly relationships - friendship, romantic relationships, marriage, and really any relationships - centers on the covenant between the two people, rather than a contract or a transaction. A covenant means that no matter what happens, you stick around for the other person, you do your part of the relationship, despite of how the other person is doing. You point out each others’ wrong (and ungodly) actions, and thoughts. You put your pride away. You speak the truth with love. You sharpen as iron, and be sharpened as iron.
And what’s beautiful about these covenants is that they are supposed to be unbreakable. Like, worldly things are not permanent, but that’s what is supposed to make relationship and marriage so valuable: they are supposed to be the unbreakable promises of you always giving yourself fully and honestly and not asking for anything in return. They’re supposed to exemplify an everlasting promise like everything that is from God
